Pilgrimage in Rome, Italy
9-Days
FROM DECEMBER 20, 1999 TO JANUARY 2, 2001

The New MillenniumOur Holy Father, Pope John Paul II has declared a Holy Year of the Great Jubilee for the year 2000, a global celebration to mark 2,000 years since the birth of our savior. The Holy Father has invited everyone to celebrate the joyous event. Extraordinary festivities will take place in Italy for a limited number of weeks, the Holy Shroud of Turin will be on display and the Passion Play in Oberammergau will be performed.

206 Tours invites you to share in the momentous events of this Holy Jubilee Year as we celebrate
the new millennium, a special grace of the Lord, for the Church and for the whole of humanity.

Jubilee for the year 2000, a year that extends from December 2nd, 1999 to January 6th, 2001. As steward of the Church's treasures, our Holy Father alone has the power to grant indulgences for the whole Church. During a Jubilee Year, the Pope grants special spiritual benefits to those who go on pilgrimage to Rome and perform other deeds of holiness.

A pilgrimage is the audience chamber of the King of Kings, where God hears our petitions more quickly and graces are lavishly bestowed. A year of God's favor is a sign of God's unfailing love; a season to remember and rejoice that two thousand years ago Christ came to free us from the bonds of sin. We celebrate the Jubilee Year exuberantly and with joy and in the sure and certain hope that our Holy Father will grant us plenary indulgences for our sins. * The Holy Jubilee Year begins on December 24th, 1999 with the opening of the Holy Door at St Peter, Basilica and of three other holy doors at nearby Roman pilgrimages site: St Paul's Outside the Walls, St John Lateran and St Mary Major. We will also visit the Church of St Lawrence Outside the Walls, Holy Cross in Jerusalem, St Sebastian, the Holy Stairs and an audience with the Pope. We will also spend much time at the Vatican visiting such sites as St Peter's Basilica, Vatican Palace (the Pope's residence), Vatican Museum, Vatican Library, the Vatican Gardens, and various art galleries.

To receive a plenary indulgence, every Pilgrim will be asked to pass through the Doors of four Major Basilicas in Rome:
St. Peter's Basilica
St. Mary Major
St. John Lateran
St  Paul Outside the Walls

In every church, the pilgrim will be asked to say the Lord's Prayer, Rosary and the Glory be to God.
